Strengthening its commitment to help enhance the environments within which it operates, premier developer Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI) recently inked a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for a tree growing series at Alegria Hills.

At the event last June 2, which also commemorated the kick-off of the World Environment Month activities, ALI committed to provide the venue and manpower support while DENR will provide its technical expertise and assistance for the planting and maintenance of over a thousand seedlings to be planted within the subdivision.

"Here in Cagayan de Oro, we commit not only to bring development and build a community, but do our share in helping protect the environment as well," Ayala Land vice president Francis O. Monera said at the ceremonies.

The tree growing series is in line with DENR???s Green Philippines Program which seeks to enhance the greening efforts in the country for environmental protection, enhancement and economic growth.

"Business viability is dependent on environmental stability??? In designing the masterplan of Alegria Hills, our planners took into account the area???s topography and existing vegetation in defining what could be useful to the residents here in the future," said Ver J. dela Cerna, Ayala Land-Vismin head of Property Management, Customer Affairs and Corporate Communication.

The event started with a mass, officiated by Msg. Ray Monsanto. It was considered the first mass celebrated at what was to be the future site of the subdivision???s Chapel in the grove. Invited guests, headed by mayor Constantino Jaraula, vice mayor Vicente Emano, include members of the media, future homeowners, the rest of the DENR personnel and community stakeholders. They planted a total of 225 seedlings that morning. The seedlings planted were Narra and Mahogany trees, indigenous hardwood species which hold the soil and more water where they are planted.

"The trees that we plant today will be a permanent living element of Alegria Hills. The roots of each Mahogany and Narra seedling will grow deep into the bedrock ??? just as deep as our collective commitment to sustainable development today," dela Cerna added.

Future plans include a series of tree planting activities, consistent with Alegria Hills??? landscaping design. Other groups and stakeholders in the community will also be invited to take part in this effort.

"Ayala strongly believes in the value of partnerships. Through them, we can extend reach, replicate and scale up successful programs to address a wider market. Together, we can do more," Monera added.

Alegria Hills is a residential development under the Ayala Land premier brand. Ayala Land???s first entry into Mindanao, Alegria Hills is an exclusive residential oasis that is perched atop sloping highlands, it is set amidst green open spaces on a highland plateau, affording a panoramic view of the Cagayan de Oro city and the Macajalar Bay.

The project is a joint development of Ayala Land with valued partners in Cagayan - the Murillo, Boniao and Borromeo families.

Alegria Hills offers a higher level of comfort, serenity and security that only an Ayala Land Premier community can provide to assure residents of quality, commitment and enduring value, a sure reward for their success.
